Joelle Joyner-Wong is a graduate student of Sonoma State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts with a concentration in Theater Studies. Raised in the Bay Area of San Leandro, CA, Joelle participated in many theater opportunities as long as she could remember. Starting off with acting classes at the age of six years old. She then moved to auditions for plays at a local church in San Leandro. In High school, Joelle took summer classes at Academy of Art University's pre-College summer program. She participated in acting and vocal technique. Senior year of high school, she did an internship at Chabot Community College Theater department, where she got to observe a College Theater course, and participate as the light board operator for the student play festival. Throughout those years of acting, Joelle always wrote short stories on the side as a hobby. At her last 2 years at Sonoma State University, Joelle was awarded the Person Theater scholarship. She was actively involved with tech, being the Dramaturg for the first production of Origin Story, Directing a scene for the first zoom show Connection Collection and wrote her first play for the student play writing festival, Powerlines. Powerlines made Joelle realize her dream for becoming a playwright, and even look into screenwriting. For her senior project, Joelle wrote a play "Ask Her Out!" Based on a real life event that the young Joelle enocuntered. The play was a symbol of growth and how graduating and that chapter in her life is coming to an end. Since graduating, Joelle has been making her name out in local Bay Area Theater companies, such as San Jose Stage Company and AlterTheater. She attended the first Screenwriting Salon and got to connect with other Bay Area writers. Joelle currently works at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, where she is the Patron Experience Representative in the Front of The House team.
